EMERYVILLE, CA--(Marketwire - December 2, 2009) - Vook, the
company that blends text and video into an innovative new experience, today
announced the release of "The Sherlock Holmes Experience: A Vook Double
Feature." The vook will include two of Conan Doyle's short stories
from "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Man with the Twisted
Lip" and "The Adventure of the Speckled Band." Vook worked closely with the
Sherlock Holmes Society of London to create a historically accurate,
scholarly video enhancement of the classic stories to engage, inspire and
connect new and old readers with dynamic video to accompany the original
text. As part of the international launch, Vook will be offering a free
copy of the Sherlock Holmes vook to each and every educator at an
accredited public and private school as well as every public library in the
United States and United Kingdom.
This title is the first release of ten to come in the Vook Enhanced
Classics education series, designed to motivate young readers to engage
with the classics that have transformed literature over time. With the
vook, students reading the Holmes stories will have a deeper comprehension
of the narrative through video and interactivity, and they'll learn more
about life in the late 19th century.
The Sherlock Holmes Experience vook is a revolutionary new way to read the
exploits of Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary character, Sherlock Holmes. The
vook enhances these timeless stories with videos that delve into the
history and legend surrounding Holmes. The videos annotate the text, giving
readers a better picture of the times and the ability to pick out details
and historical facts that help readers further immerse themselves in the
mysteries. Additionally, key terms are hyperlinked throughout the vook to
let readers explore sites on the Web related to the plot without having to
lose their place in the story. The vook will be available as an application
on the iPhone and the browser-based Vook Reader.
"I much enjoyed taking part in this really enterprising project by
Vook. It's well thought out, cleverly crafted and should be a winner in
bringing the world of the extraordinary Mr. Sherlock Holmes to new
generations," said Nick Utechin, editor, "The Sherlock Holmes Journal
1976-2006," on behalf of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London.
"This is a fantastic new chapter for Vook. We are thrilled to bring the
classic adventures of Sherlock Holmes into the digital age, providing all
the benefits of today's rich media tools without losing any of the
authenticity from the original version," said Bradley Inman, CEO and
founder, Vook. "This stands to be a great tool for educators to engage
their students in this story through Web-based mediums that young people
are now very familiar with, and I am proud that Vook is able to provide
this unique experience for free to all schools and libraries in the UK and
U.S."
Educators at accredited UK and U.S. schools and public libraries can sign
