Vyatta Challenges Proprietary Vendors With Mid-Range, Integrated Enterprise Networking Appliance

Vyatta 2501 Shatters Price/Performance Expectations in Enterprise Routing and Security

BELMONT, CA--(Marketwire - August 4, 2008) - Vyatta, the leader in Linux-based networking, today announced the Vyatta 2501 open network appliance, a mid-range system designed to meet the connectivity and security demands of medium to large enterprises. With two integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports for high-speed LAN connectivity and two expansion slots for additional LAN and WAN ports, the Vyatta 2501 with Vyatta software delivers integrated routing and security and enterprise-class performance for a fraction of the price of proprietary appliances.

"Enterprises are asking for mid-range networking solutions that pack the price-performance punch of Vyatta's open networking software with the ease of a pre-integrated appliance," said Kelly Herrell, Vyatta's CEO. "The Vyatta 2501 combines all the things customers expect from Vyatta -- features, performance, flexibility, and value -- on high-performance hardware, making it a clear alternative in a market saturated with expensive proprietary solutions."

The Vyatta 2501 delivers a broad range of features including integrated BGP, OSPF, and RIP routing; stateful firewall; IPsec and PPTP VPNs; quality of service (QoS); WAN load balancing; WAN interface capabilities from ADSL to T3; and LAN interface capabilities up to 10 Gbps, all for a single low price. In contrast, proprietary vendors often charge thousands of dollars extra for many of the features that come standard with Vyatta.

Building on the success of the Vyatta 514, an appliance for the SMB market introduced in March, the Vyatta 2501 delivers on the performance and connectivity requirements of larger business installations. Available now with a starting price of $2,347, the Vyatta 2501 comes pre-installed with Vyatta's open-network operating system and is bundled with one of several subscription options which include service and support.
