Media Orthopaedic Reporting Excellence (MORE) Awards Call for Entries Is STILL OPEN


ROSEMONT, IL--(Marketwire - October 4, 2007) - Being a health or fitness journalist offers a large realm of topics and ideas to engage in. From obesity to Alzheimer's to diet and exercise tips, health-related avenues are endless.

Have you recently written or reported on any of the following:

--  Boomeritis
--  Hip resurfacing
--  Joint replacement
--  Lawnmower safety tips
--  War and/or military-related body injuries
--  Wheeled-shoe safety tips
--  MORE-so, anything related to bones, joints or muscles??
    

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has opened the call for submissions to its 2008 MORE Awards, the third-annual awards program to recognize excellence in reporting accurate musculoskeletal health and issues and encouraging healthy behaviors in the care of bones, joints and muscles. The AAOS invites journalists to join the distinguished group of the "best reporters" in the health care arena.

MORE Awards will be given to media in the following categories:

--  National Consumer Print Journalism :  newspapers, magazines, Internet
--  Local Consumer Print Journalism:  newspapers, magazine, Internet
--  National Broadcast Journalism:  television, radio
--  Local Broadcast Journalism:  television, radio
    

The entry deadline is Wednesday, October 31, 2007. Entries must have been published or broadcast between October 1, 2006 and October 1, 2007. The rules and entry form -- open to all journalists, freelance writers and editors in print or broadcast media -- are accessible at www.aaos.org/moreawards.

"Educating the public and patients is an important component of the AAOS' mission and the MORE Awards are designed to recognize journalists whose work helps accomplish this," explained James H. Beaty, MD, president of AAOS. "The MORE Awards were created to recognize the members of the media who -- by virtue of their ability to ask the right questions and connect all the answers in a concise educational package -- place orthopaedic-related issues and medical advancements in the spotlight."

Winners of the MORE Awards will be presented Friday May 2, 2008 at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference in Washington, DC.

The 2007 MORE Awards were given to Newsweek, ABC News, US News and World Report, AARP, among many others.
