WDFA Marketing Concludes the First Year of Its Internship Program With MetWest High School

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - June 18, 2010) -   WDFA Marketing recently concluded the first year of its internship program with MetWest High School, located in Oakland. CEO and Managing Partner Raj Prasad and Account Director Yvonne Chavez began this program in November 2009. Their mission is to bring real world perspective, the value of hard work and professional experience to "at risk" students.

WDFA's interns, Marissa Yarbrough and Mary White, both 17, are now seniors at MetWest. MetWest is unique in that it only has 131 enrolled students and, twice a week, students work as interns in the industry of their choice. Their advisor, Michelle Deiro, is also the former high school teacher and mentor of both Prasad and Chavez.

Prasad says, "When I was an intern, I threw out trash, made copies and went on coffee runs. But I constantly wanted to learn and do more in advertising, and eventually I became the company's director of sales. My teachers and my boss made me work hard, and thanks to their push to realize my own potential, I now own an ad agency. I wanted Marissa and Mary to know that anything is possible if you really want it. The only way to challenge and inspire them was to fully integrate them in every aspect of a running agency as employees, not interns."

All the work Yarbrough and White completed during their internship directly related to live client projects, learning the full spectrum of day-to-day marketing agency responsibilities. They also built their own campaigns from start to finish -- White is coordinating a MetWest fundraiser and Yarbrough is designing new collateral for the school. Both hope to pursue marketing and advertising in their college careers.
