LAUNCHES A DRAMATIC ON-THE-MOUNTAIN THEATRE EXPERIENCE FOR AUGUST 2006 Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Education Editor, Lifestyle Editor, Media Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor WHISTLER, B.C.--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 8, 2005) - Producers Zaib Shaikh, Todd Talbot and Lynn May Mirfield are excited to launch WHISTLER THEATRE PROJECT, a new theatre company that will bring the first professional summer theatre experience to Whistler. The company will debut with the fun and sexy comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare that will run August 4 through to September 3, 2006.

Audience members will experience a world class cultural event sitting on the edge of Whistler Mountain under an open-backed tent with a spectacular view of the mountains and sky. The producers state, "It's our desire to create a unique and memorable outdoor experience that brings people together through the magic of theatre while fostering the imagination of artist and audience alike."

Artistic advisors Morris Panych, internationally-acclaimed director/writer/actor, and Ken McDonald, award winning designer say, "creating and maintaining a repertory company in Whistler is perfect-a synthesis of natural beauty, culture, and entertainment-it's a great package."

This annual theatre festival will draw those who love the excitement of mountain activities by day and world class entertainment by night. Whistler Theatre Project's long-range plan is to have this theatre festival be an intrinsic part of Whistler's community development before, during and after the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

"Whistler Theatre Project is a fantastic development to the diverse summer calendar in Whistler," says Barrett Fisher, Tourism Whistler President. "Our research shows that the arts are an area that Whistler visitors want to see more of, so having theatre showcased in our mountain setting is a fitting way to incorporate an engaging live performance into the overall Whistler experience."

Doti Niedermayer, Executive Director for the Whistler Arts Council adds, "The Whistler Arts Council feels strongly that the development of a professional summer theatre festival is integral to the growing cultural fabric of our community."

Zaib Shaikh, Todd Talbot and Lynn May Mirfield are the creative force and producing team behind Whistler Theatre Project. Zaib and Todd (Artistic Producers) are leading members of the Canadian Theatre community. Zaib has worked with some of the largest theatre companies in Canada including Canadian Stage, National Arts Centre and the Stratford Festival of Canada. Todd's work has taken him around the world from London's West End, Universal Studios Orlando, The Charlottetown Festival, Canadian Stage, Vancouver Playhouse, Bard on the Beach and the Arts Club Theatre. Lynn (Director of Operations) has worked with major event and theatre companies including PGI, and Stratford Festival of Canada.
