WI DAY OF SUPERMARKET ACTION

Women across England and Wales are taking part in a day of action against supermarkets on 20 June 2006 to demand a reduction in excessive and unnecessary food packaging. Organised by the Women's Institute, the action aims to change the way supermarkets package food and raise awareness of the impact supermarkets have on the environment.

A photo call will take place at 11.00am on 20 June 2006 in London at the supermarket opposite Russell Square tube station. For details of other events and photo opportunities across England and Wales, please contact the WI press office on 020 7371 9300.

The day of action is part of the WI 'Care of our environment' campaign. WI members are concerned about excess waste, landfill and the impact this has on climate change.
