Wal-Mart's Go Bananas! Campaign for Children's Nutrition Programs Reaches a New Height of $1.4 M

Wal-Mart Canada and Breakfast Clubs of Canada announced today that the recent Go Bananas! campaign held at Wal-Mart stores across the country toppled the fruit bowl again with a record-breaking donation of $1.4M.

Last month's three-week campaign invited Wal-Mart Canada customers at Wal-Mart stores and SAM'S CLUBs to pitch in a loonie for a banana icon at the checkout. They responded with a huge wave of enthusiasm to give Canadian kids an equal start at school and in life. Additionally, Wal-Mart Canada contributed more than $570,000 on behalf of each of its stores.

From a Wal-Mart cash register to a full tummy in the morning before class, money raised by the Go Bananas! campaign will benefit Breakfast Clubs of Canada and school nutrition programs supported by the Breakfast for Learning network. This network links with 2,400 community nutrition programs feeding 230,000 kids from coast-to-coast.

"Providing children a healthy breakfast so they can be the best they can be in school is something our associates and customers instantly understand," said Mario Pilozzi, President and CEO of Wal-Mart Canada. "This program helps Canadians open their wallets, hearts, and minds for kids."

With this year's record donation, this adds up to more than $7 million contributed to school nutrition programs by Wal-Mart Canada and SAM'S CLUB associates, its customers and members, and suppliers.
