Walmart Is the Least Loved Department Store on Social Media

Retailer Ranks Poorly in Public Opinion, According to Amplicate

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - April 6, 2011) - Walmart (WMT) is not only facing severe criticism from their female employees, but also from social media users who have ranked the retail giant as their least loved US department store.

Amplicate, an online opinion collating resource that accounts for more than 80 million public opinions of social media users, reports that there has been over 9,985 negative Walmart opinions (http://amplicate.com/hate/walmart) expressed on Twitter, Facebook and Amplicate within the last 3 months.

Comments on Walmart include working conditions complaints, low salaries, low quality products and poor customer service. As one opinion stated, "I was fired because I was hurt doing what they told me to do against my objections. Of course they have excuses, they always do...[Walmart] finds ways around being responsible to the American people and their employees."

Not all the opinions regarding the retailer are negative however, one stated, "They [Walmart] contribute to society more than any of their peers." These positive opinions account for 34 percent of the ratings, quite below the 47 percent average for all US Department stores.

Walmart has held the bottom position in the Top 20 US Department Stores http://amplicate.com/services/8791-top-department-stores-in-us/ for the last 6 months, whereas their competitor Costco Wholesale (COST) has held the number one spot with a love rating of 84 percent.
