Websense Extends Global Leadership, Achieves Numerous Industry and Customer Accolades in Data Loss Prevention in 2009

Company Has Data Loss Prevention Customers in 39 Countries; Adds Enterprise Class Email Channel DLP for Thousands of Customers

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - December 17, 2009) - Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBSN), a global leader in integrated Web, data and email security solutions, today announced that the company has extended its leadership in data loss prevention (DLP) through technology innovation, customer growth and retention, channel partner enablement and increased global support. Additionally, Websense received a number of industry and customer accolades in 2009, showing the company's strength in enterprise-class and channel DLP solutions.

In 2009, Websense increased the number of enterprise Websense® Data Security Suite customers to more than 400 and now has DLP customers in 39 countries. Organizations across many vertical industries have adopted Websense DLP solutions to protect their essential information from accidental or malicious loss, achieve regulatory compliance and protect intellectual property. New customers throughout the world include: one of the largest nuclear energy companies in the United States, numerous U.S. Federal and state agencies, one of the world's largest credit card companies and dozens of large financial, healthcare and retail organizations.

Channel-Specific Data Loss Prevention

Channel-specific DLP provides data loss prevention capabilities for a single communication channel, such as email or Web traffic, and is gaining rapid adoption. In 2009, Websense added enterprise class DLP capabilities for thousands of its email security customers -- both security-as-a-service and on-premise -- with email channel implementations which include the same industry-leading DLP detection and protection capabilities as the full Websense enterprise DLP suite. This includes enforcement of outbound compliance and data loss protection, combined with granular and highly accurate content filtering.

Unlike other email content filtering solutions that rely on simple keywords for DLP, Websense email security customers receive the full power of Websense enterprise-class DLP analytics and granular policies for the email channel. Additionally, as customers choose to move from channel DLP to full, enterprise-class functionality including data discovery, monitoring and protecting data at rest and in motion, they can do so simply by expanding their subscription key.

"This year our data loss prevention solutions have received high praise from industry experts, customers, partners and analysts who have validated our strategy and the effectiveness of our solutions," said Devin Redmond, vice president of business development and product management, Websense. "As we look to 2010 we will build on this momentum to deliver additional and augmented solutions that work as dedicated enterprise implementations, as well part of a unified DLP framework that includes focused channel DLP capabilities across our unified email, Web and security-as-a-service solutions."

Industry Analyst Recognition

Websense data security solutions continue to receive high praise from the industry analyst community. In 2009:

-- Analyst Firm Burton Group in the 2009 "Market InSight: Data Leakage Prevention 2009," report named Websense to a 'Short List' of three vendors that "are emerging and leading the DLP market to meet the demands of regulation and needs of enterprise."

Websense DLP solutions include easy-to-use policy wizards to quickly select from more than 950 policy templates, ranging from the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and more, so that customers can quickly arrive at a configuration that meets their data security needs. The solutions are available as a standalone solution or can be integrated with Websense Email Security, Web Security and security-as-a-service solutions as part of the Websense portfolio of integrated essential information protection solutions.

Channel Partner Growth

Websense channel partners are also seeing growth opportunities with Websense DLP solutions. Websense channel partner and a leading security consulting organization, Accuvant has seen increased demand from its clients for data security technologies. To address this demand, the company offers data loss prevention services, which are designed to help clients gain understanding of where sensitive information exists in their organization, how it is being used, and develop a data security strategy for protecting essential information. As part of its DLP consulting services, Accuvant recommends industry-leading technology solutions.

"DLP technologies play an increasingly critical role in our clients' security strategies," said Dan Wilson, vice president of partner alliances for Accuvant. "Accuvant's number one priority is to meet our customers' information security needs with the most advanced technologies and services. We are very pleased with the success we've had with Websense DLP products, which have proved to be valuable tools in our arsenal of solutions."

New Certification for Network Access Control

Websense is first and only vendor to achieve OESIS OK certification for data loss prevention for its Websense Data Security Endpoint. OESIS is an open development framework that provides an industry standard for endpoint security application integration. This certification by OPSWAT ensures that Websense Data Endpoint complies with all certified Network Access Control (NAC) endpoints including Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, F5 Networks, H3C and SonicWALL. This certification reinforces the security of critical information resources by ensuring that only users with data loss prevention tools from Websense are able to connect to and access corporate resources. Customers can rest assured that rogue or employee-provisioned devices with insufficient security models cannot gain access to critical data and become a vector for data loss.
