Punch Communications, a Midlands based PR Company, has today underlined the importance of a well structured website, following the changes that the search engine Google made to its algorithm.

Google, the most popular and widely recognised internet search engine in the world, altered it's algorithm in the UK in a similar way to the changes that it made in the United States, so that now the results are suggested to favour "brands" over "non-brands".

The change now means that it will be much easier for "big name brands" to rank on the first page of google for keywords, and early predictions indicate that links may no longer be of such great importance, with brand mentions within mainstream media outlets and also social media having an impact on search results too.

Perhaps more importantly, websites that are constructed in a logical, simple manner are more likely to have success in search engine optimisation (SEO). With greater emphasis placed on the value of internal links and site structure, websites that are constructed well from the start will do better moving forward.

Pete Goold, Managing Director of Punch, commented: "The new algorithm changes will undoubtedly mean shifts in current rankings, and as an agency we will be looking to react to this using current best practice in SEO, to ensure that our activity is not penalised in any way.

"The changes will have a huge impact on the field of online PR, as mentions in mainstream internet based media are set to have increased importance to google."

Punch Communications has a wealth of experience in automotive PR, and a healthy list of contacts in online publications. Punch is also able to cost effectively integrate SEO and social media into an overall campaign, therefore giving each client the greatest benefit of PR activity on the internet.
