WellPoint Foundation Awards Grant to Pioneering Nonprofit to Run U.S. Uninsured Help Line

Foundation for Health Coverage Education Simplifies Enrollment Process for Nation's 15 Million Uninsured Eligible for Government Programs

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - June 15, 2010) -  With the implementation of Health Care Reform legislation set to roll out over the next four years, current efforts to educate uninsured Americans will continue. To this end, the Foundation for Health Coverage Education (FHCE),, has been awarded a grant in the amount of $167,000 from the WellPoint Foundation,, a private, non-profit organization wholly funded by WellPoint, Inc. The grant will help pay for the day-to-day operations of FHCE's toll-free 'U.S. Uninsured Help Line,' (800-234-1317) and assist in maintaining its 'Health Care Options Matrix,' an up-to-date public/private health coverage guide to assist people looking for coverage options.

"The WellPoint Foundation is dedicated to working with organizations to identify and target public health concerns," said Lance Chrisman, Executive Director of the WellPoint Foundation. "Our grant will keep the phone lines staffed and operating at the FHCE's 'U.S. Uninsured Help Line,' so that uninsured Americans can learn about their eligibility status and enroll in established government health programs. Not only will this ensure that more Americans have access to high quality care, but it will also help reduce the overall cost of care." visitors can take a simple 5-Question Eligibility Quiz or call the 24/7 U.S. Uninsured Help Line to talk with a counselor who will review the questions with them. This eligibility review is a starting point for the Fresno, California-based call center's staff which guides each caller through their options and directs them to the appropriate state-sponsored programs.

"The FHCE has helped nearly 2 million people find heath coverage through and our U.S. Uninsured Help Line," said Ankeny Minoux, President of the FHCE. "With funding from the WellPoint Foundation, the FHCE can continue to educate uninsured Americans about their health coverage options."
