The West Island Dragon Boat Team Joins Galerie Pierre Seguin's Artists to Fight Breast Cancer

L'ILE-PERROT, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 2, 2007) - Galerie Pierre Seguin will launch its fifth annual tribute to women fighting breast cancer through an impressive art exhibition called "Hommage". This major event will last until December 23rd and gather 32 professional artists and members of the West Island Dragon Boat Team in a joint effort to raise money for the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation. Artists and members of the Dragon Team will welcome the public on Sunday November 18th from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

According to Pierre Seguin, owner of the art gallery, this exhibition will present a unique opportunity for the public to realize how professional artists and Dragon's athletes share the same approach to life: "Both groups undergo periods of solitude and life uncertainties through sickness and creation".

The art exhibition "Hommage" dates back from October 2003, as a special tribute to late painter Michele Leveille, who had died from cancer a few months earlier. Women artists who belonged to Galerie Pierre Seguin gathered in a first art show to recognize Leveille's talents and stubbornness since she painted up to her death. This year male artists prove their solidarity by joining women in their fundraising efforts.

The West Island Dragon Boat Team will preside "Hommage" 2007. The boat team gathers 29 members ranging in age from 30 to 70, who are all breast cancer survivors. They share a common belief, and determination to live full, actives lives. They train from April to September, twice a week, at Pointe-Claire Canoe Club, and the rest of the year, at the Olympic basin and the West Island YMCA. They usually compete three times a year.

Marlene Parker, from Beaconsfield, June Pederson, from Hudson, and Debbie Kennedy, from Pincourt are spokeswomen for the Dragon's team. Training together after surviving cancer gives them the energy and strength to overcome anxiety. "We do share one value: to live a full and active life, and the Dragon give us an opportunity to support each other."

Galerie Pierre Seguin raised more than $15 000 for the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation up to now. The yearly "Hommage" art exhibitions have also provided occasions for the gallery to inform visitors about breast cancer research supported by QBCF, as well as programs dedicated to women with breast cancer.

Galerie Pierre Seguin is located at 61, Grand Boulevard, L'ILe-Perrot, near Highway 20, at the corner of 3rd avenue. Business hours for the "Hommage" art exhibition that last from Sunday November 18th to Sunday December 23rd are Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Information : Galerie Pierre Seguin, 514.453.9530, or 1.877.453.9530, or www.pseguin.com.
