Western Forest Products Reduces Production

DUNCAN, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 1, 2008) - Western Forest Products Inc. (TSX:WEF) ("Western" or "the Company") has become aware of inaccurate reports in the media concerning the scope of curtailments of certain Western logging operations.

The Company has curtailed log harvesting for periods ranging between one and six weeks at a number of its operations on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast during the months of May and June. This reduction in logging represents about one third of normal harvesting undertaken during this period. These curtailments are intended to align log harvesting with Western's reduced sawmill requirements, including the impact of an indefinite shutdown of the sawmill located at Ladysmith on Vancouver Island. These actions have been taken in the face of the unusually depressed market conditions for forest products, particularly the dimension lumber industry in the United States and slow market conditions in Japan, which have been discussed in more detail in the Company's Annual MD&A, available at WWW.SEDAR.COM. If these market conditions continue there could be further curtailments.
