Wi-LAN Appoints New Chairman of the Board

OTTAWA, CANADA--(Marketwire - Nov. 21, 2008) - Wi-LAN Inc. ("Wi-LAN" or the "Company") (TSX:WIN), a leading technology innovation and licensing company, today announced that its Board has appointed Mr. Jim Skippen as Chairman of the Board of Directors effective immediately. Mr. Skippen will continue in his role as Chief Executive Officer of the Company.

Mr. Skippen has been Wi-LAN's President & CEO and a member of the Company's Board of Directors since June 2006.

"At this time in the Company's evolution, the Board has determined that Mr. Skippen is the best choice for Chairman," said Bill Jenkins, Chairman of the Nominating and Governance Committee. "Jim has been the driving force and visionary behind Wi-LAN's remarkable transition to a successful licensing company. Since the resignation of our previous Chairman in March 2008, Mr. Skippen has been Acting Chairman of the Board and we believe that it is appropriate and desirable at this time to make the position permanent."

The Board of Directors is also pleased to announce that Richard Shorkey, Chairman of the Audit Committee, has been appointed Lead Independent Director. Among other duties, Mr. Shorkey will facilitate the functioning of the Board independently of management as required.
