Wi-LAN Provides Corporate Development and Update

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - May 15, 2006) -

Organizational restructuring moving along on time and according to plan

Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN) ("Wi-LAN" or "the Company") today announced its recent corporate developments and provided an update on the Company's restructuring efforts. Since taking control of the Company at the Annual and Special Meeting on April 20th, 2006 the new Board of Directors has worked diligently with management to execute its plan to concentrate entirely on the commercialization of Wi-LAN's portfolio of essential wireless technology patents. Recent actions by the Company include:

1) Finalizing recruitment of a CEO experienced in patent litigation - a press release detailing this appointment is imminent;

2) Reducing employee headcount to seven by the end of May - three Vice Presidents will remain until the end of May to finalize some transactions; most of the former Wi-LAN employees were hired by EION and Fujitsu Microelectronics of America (FMA); Wi-LAN expects its operating budget to be less than $2M per year in addition to legal expenses;

3) Completing outstanding sales of assets - the sale of the ASIC development group to FMA is the lone outstanding issue; negotiations are ongoing;

4) Establishing a stronger investor relations program - met with institutional investors in Toronto;

5) Notifying an initial group of companies of Wi-LAN's intentions to enforce its patent rights; this has initiated discussions with a few companies; and

6) Aggressively protecting its patent rights - the Company has filed a lawsuit against an infringing company.

"We have achieved everything we set out to do over the past 3 weeks since taking control of Wi-LAN", said Dr. Hatim Zaghloul, Chairman of the board of directors of Wi-LAN. "We have taken the necessary steps to complete our organizational restructuring, and are now focused on executing on a strategy that will surface the true value of our portfolio of essential wireless technology patents".
