Widevine® DRM Enables Use of Adobe Flash Video Format for Major Motion Pictures & Television Distributed by Gaia Online

DRM Solution Secures Warner Bros. and Sony Content Delivered at Gaia Cinemas

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - January 3, 2008) - Widevine Technologies, the only provider of multiformat and multiplatform DRM and the recognized "Switzerland of DRM," today announced it is actively securing the distribution of Flash-based content from Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures Television for Gaia Online. One of the fastest-growing hangout sites on the web, Gaia Online is geared towards teens who want to play games, make friends and participate in social networking. Widevine, which secures premium content during delivery and consumption, was a critical enabler of Gaia's licensing deal.

Gaia's monthly visitors number more than 2.5 million a month with tens of millions of views. It currently offers movies and television shows available for community members to watch within the Gaia Cinemas. Designed to entertain and enable interactivity, Gaia Online streams Flash-based titles to members using Windows® PCs or Mac® computers. Widevine secures the content during streaming and after decryption to further prevent against piracy tools such as screen scrapers and stream recorders.

"With content owners and web portals such as Gaia Online looking to secure digital media, Widevine specifically designed a solution that meets their needs. In some cases, Widevine ensures content is paid for and copyrights are protected while, in other cases, we ensure advertising integrity is maintained within the video. Regardless, the use of content security is critical to maximize revenue generation through Internet media distribution," said Brian Baker, CEO of Widevine Technologies. "Widevine's exclusive ability to provide secure, cross-platform Flash delivery to a wide range of consumer platforms is critical. Gaia Online has met the security requirements of the major studios to deliver a highly sought user experience for their community."

"With the introduction of the Gaia Cinemas, we have once again pioneered a unique entertainment experience at Gaia," said Gaia CEO Craig Sherman. "The Gaia Cinemas enables millions of teens to come together to share their experiences, express their individuality and now watch great movies or episodic television. We wanted to offer and make premium content available to all our members. Widevine is helping us to achieve our entertainment and business goals with its content protection solution for Flash and enabling us to expand to other formats, if needed."

Flash is the most ubiquitous video format in use by consumers today and is installed on over 98% of all computers worldwide. In contrast to traditional DRM technologies -- which restrict content purchase and usage to specific devices, video formats and online services -- Widevine opens DRM interoperability to all platforms, networks and video devices. The technology is an extension of Widevine's industry leading Widevine Cypher® product, the most deployed content protection solution for closed network IP video worldwide.
