Women With Entrepreneurial Skills Could Get Easier Access to Capital

Achieving Success May Be More Possible for Women Thanks to Doors Opened by Study Results

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 17, 2009) - According to a recent study, women in business have a greater impact on the U.S. economy and job market than may have been previously thought. In fact, the impact is so significant, some experts expect it will open funding doors for women who want to use their entrepreneurial skills to start or grow a business.

The study, led by the nonprofit Center for Women's Business Research and sponsored by Women Impacting Public Policy, a nonpartisan group, and Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, investigated the true impact of women-owned businesses, privately held companies in which women have a minimum 50 percent stake, and uncovered some surprising information.

-- Women-owned businesses generate about $3 trillion in revenue
-- Women-owned businesses employ 16 percent of the workforce
-- The number of employees in women-owned businesses is 23 million,
nearly twice the number employed by the 50 largest U.S. companies combined.

"These numbers are important for every woman business owner, and for women who want to use their entrepreneurial skills to start a business," said Shane Krider, founder of entrepreneurial skills training company Polaris Media Group.

"Numbers like these prove that women in business have a significant impact on the economy. It will give them a voice, and open doors to the funding and other support needed to achieve success."
