XO Communications' CIO Robert Geller Named a Premier 100 IT Leader by Computerworld

Honored for Leadership Skills and Effective Management of IT Strategies

HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - December 7, 2009) - XO Communications, a leading nationwide provider of advanced communications services and solutions for businesses, enterprises, governments, carriers and service providers, announced today that Robert Geller, chief information officer (CIO), was named a 2010 Premier 100 IT Leader by Computerworld. This year's Premier 100 spotlights 100 leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies that have demonstrated exceptional technology leadership, deployed innovative solutions to address business challenges and implemented strategic IT initiatives.

"The Premier 100 awards program shines a spotlight on the best of IT leadership and innovation," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Despite a tough economy, these senior IT leaders are seizing this rare moment to steer measured growth, embark on innovative pilots and build loyalty in their most valued workers. We're pleased to honor the achievements of these 100 men and women who epitomize calm and steady IT leadership."

Geller oversees all of XO Communications' IT operations and initiatives, including managing more than 400 IT professionals. His recent achievements include leading XO's IT team through a successful transformation from a traditional voice provider to one focused on data and IP services. This complex initiative required Geller's team to completely overhaul XO's IT systems and procedures, through which XO's IP services could be deployed, ordered, activated, provisioned, billed and supported in 75 markets.

Aided by Geller's continued leadership and vision, XO Communications has since launched dozens of IP products, averaging approximately six to nine months to create, test and deploy each new product, a pace that far exceeds the industry standard of 12 months. In addition to providing XO's customers with affordable and innovative telecommunications solutions, the company's data and IP product set has been integral to its sustained corporate growth. In 2008 alone, XO generated a 26.5 percent year-over-year increase in data and IP revenue.

"This distinction honors Rob's strategic management skills during a critical point in the company's history and reinforces his valuable contributions to XO's executive team," said Carl Grivner, chief executive officer of XO Communications. "Throughout his career, Rob has utilized a back-to-basics, block and tackle approach to management, which, coupled with his unwavering commitment to his team and focus on innovation, has solidified his position as a top performer in his field."

The Premier 100 awards ceremony will be one of the highlights of Computerworld's annual Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference, being held March 7-9, 2010, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. The Conference, to be attended by more than 375 influential senior IT executives, will showcase honorees and other IT innovators as they discuss how to create competitive IT organizations. About the Premier 100:

The Premier 100 was first created in 2000 to spotlight individuals who have had a positive impact on their organization through technology. These are individuals who manage internal IT organizations, mentor and motivate their IT teams and business colleagues, create a positive work environment, envision innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively manage and execute IT strategies. Each year nominees are invited to complete a survey that addresses a number of topics, including their background and experience and their attitude toward risk and innovation. Using Computerworld's IT Leader Index and using the data from the index, which is a measurement of how closely an individual matches our definition of the IT Leader, we analyze the data. Each year, 100 honorees are selected to receive this lifetime recognition award. Information on previous honorees can be viewed at:
