The new report highlights results from multiple Aberdeen Group survey-based benchmark studies of RFID use in manufacturing, retail, and other industries. The report offers specific, vendor-neutral, business-centric analysis and their recommendations which help all types and sizes of enterprises benefit from the maximum advantages of RFID that are within and beyond corporate supply chains. A significant finding was that 100% of the "Best-in-Class" companies using RFID reduced process failure incidents by at least 20%, and improved process throughput by at least 10%.

As enterprises pursue and achieve business benefits from RFID deployments, their RFID solutions, technologies, and vendor selection strategies are creating more opportunities for success. A critical factor in each success is a greater focus on business process visibility, improvement, and optimization.

More than a third of manufacturers surveyed by the Aberdeen Group (34%) cited asset tracking as the primary objective of their RFID initiatives, with production efficiency (24%) and supply chain visibility (19%) following close behind on their list of priorities. Among retailers surveyed, more than two-thirds (68%) cited improving process visibility as a key incentive in their RFID adoption, with almost as many (64%) citing asset tracking. These and other findings featured in the report demonstrate that RFID technology has evolved beyond traditional "slap-and-ship" and "track-and-trace" applications.
