Yellow Pages Group Delivers New ecoGuide to Citizens of Calgary

Just in time for Waste Reduction Week: tips on responsible consumption, recycling do's and don'ts and the proper way to dispose of hundreds of household items

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 5, 2009) - Yellow Pages Group (YPG) (TSX:YLO.UN) proudly presents its new ecoGuide, a valuable local reference filled with helpful tips on responsible consumption. The ecoGuide is located in the first pages of the 2009-2010 Calgary Yellow Pages™ directories that will be distributed throughout October. Created in partnership with Earth Day Canada and The City of Calgary, the ecoGuide is also available online at http://eco.yellowpagesdocuments.ca/doc/eco-AB/Calgary/2009082001/, and includes:

- a directory to Reuse & Recycle more than 400 household items such as tires, computers, electronics, mattresses, carpets and smoke detectors) to be disposed of ecologically and a list of addresses of where to take them

- a list of materials that are accepted/refused in recycling bins, along with details on the collection of green and hazardous domestic waste

- 35 ecological certifications to help consumers make more responsible purchases

- 15 simple ways to reduce our environmental impact (composting, tempering temperature reduce the water consumption, etc.) while saving fuel, electricity, water and of course, money.

"Canadians are showing great willingness to reduce their environmental impact but often don't know where to start," explains Annie Marsolais, Director, Corporate and Marketing Communications, Yellow Pages Group. "Research showed us that approximately one-third of Canadians are unaware of how to safely dispose of many articles in an eco-friendly manner. Just in time for Waste Reduction Week across Canada, we are pleased to address a real need and provide a valuable eco-resource to households and businesses."

The Recycle and Reuse directory is one of the many useful tool residents will find in their ecoGuide. Recycling is one of the basic actions families can participate in on a daily basis to support the environment. So, are you sure everything you recycle is actually recyclable? Is a pizza box recyclable? Answer: It is a non-recyclable item in a few municipalities but is accepted in The City of Calgary's recycling program. What about leftover paint in cans? Contrary to popular belief, most recycling programs accept them. Leftover paint can be taken to one of five select fire stations or three landfills in the City where the paint collected will be recycled. These are the kind of answers citizens can find in their Yellow Pages™ ecoGuide.

"Earth Day Canada is delighted to contribute to the ecoGuide and partner with Yellow Pages Group on this extremely valuable and worthwhile resource that every household and business should keep as their local environmental reference guide," said Jed Goldberg, President, Earth Day Canada. "It is easy to lessen your impact on the environment by taking simple actions that lead to major positive results."

Program development leader with The City's Waste & Recycling Services, Paula Magdich says the ecoGuide will make it easier for citizens to understand what and where they can recycle or donate items. "Additionally, we encourage citizens to recycle their outdated Yellow Pages™ directory in the blue carts and community depots and check out the guide."
