Zingaya Launches Zin.to Enabling Phone Conversations Through Twitter

LONDON--(Marketwire - October 14, 2010) -  Zingaya, developer of scalable, high-quality VoIP applications for the web and social media services, today announced the North American launch of Zin.to, a new service that allows people to make calls through Twitter feeds with the click of a button.

How to Get Started

  • Sign into www.Zin.to with your Twitter account
  • Enter your landline number, your mobile phone number or your Skype ID
  • Send a tweet to your friends or followers to have them call you

"We applaud some of the early efforts of 'tweet-to-call' pioneers, but we feel Zin.to is the first to allow Twitter users to make high-quality calls with the click of a link," said Alexey Aylarov, co-founder of Zingaya. "In addition to people who will use it socially, we think this is a fantastic opportunity for online commerce sites to use their Twitter feeds to increase conversion rates by connecting Twitter followers directly with call centers."

How It Works
Zin.to lets your Twitter followers call your cell phone, landline, or Skype account (whichever you select) just by clicking a link that you Tweet to them.

  • For the person calling you: There's nothing to download and no phone is required -- they are talking to you through their browser.
  • For you: You specify whom you want to call you -- whether it's one friend or all of your followers. All contact details will be kept private, so you can use Zin.to without giving your phone number or Skype ID away.

Cost
Zin.to is currently free. Each user gets 30 minutes of call forwarding to US phone numbers per day. Call forwarding to Skype is unlimited.

Business Use
For many online retailers, phone conversations lead to much higher conversion rates than any online marketing activities. Zin.to connects Twitter followers directly to call centers, sales offices, and customer service departments. This can be a very powerful tool for businesses. For example, a company can send promotional offers to its followers on Twitter and ask asking them to call within a certain time to get an additional discount or to win a prize. Zin.to brings an additional component to interactive tweeting.

The Technology
The real story behind Zingaya and Zin.to is the Flash-client and the back-end server technology:

  • No download required: End users don't download software. They just click the "Call" link and are automatically making a phone call through their computer using Flash.
  • Best-in-class sound quality: Sound quality is paramount with VoIP services, and Zingaya's software supports all new and proven technologies. This includes TCP and UDP protocols, Acoustic Echo Cancellation, Adaptive Jitter Buffer, Noise Reduction, Automatic Gain Control, and more.
  • Scalable: Zingaya has developed state-of-the-art software that provides optimized performance for the service's main tasks, such as handling signalization protocols and transcoding audio streams.
  • Cross platform: Widgets can be used on Windows, Mac and Linux systems.
  • Extensible: Zingaya supports extensbile APIs that developers can use to integrate with 3rd party web services.
