A $871,068 Contract Awarded for Wharf Reconstruction in Clarks Harbour

YARMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 21, 2006) - An $871,068 competitive contract has been awarded to Tri County Construction Limited, of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, to reconstruct the wharf in Clarks Harbour, Nova Scotia. Awarded on behalf of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this contract will be completed by the end of April 2007.

The announcement was made today by Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South-Shore-St-Margaret's, on behalf of the Honourable Michael M. Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.

"This contract will ensure that the harbour facilities of Clarks Harbour continues to play a critical role in the community's economic development," said Mr. Keddy. "The construction of the new structure supports commitments by the Government of Canada in providing our fishers with the first-rate harbours and facilities they need for success."

The project consists of demolishing and removing the existing deteriorated cribwork wharf, constructing a new 45-metre long marginal cribwork wharf, reconstructing the deck on an existing cribwork wharf and constructing a new 12-metre long pile work marginal wharf.
