A Call to Arms for Manufacturing, in Manufacturing Digital

NORWICH, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Apr 20, 2012) - As the countries of the world turn to their home-grown manufacturing industries to help turn around their economic woes, is the current employee infrastructure able to sustain what is being asked?

From Africa to Asia, through America and Europe, every major territory of the world is relying more and more on their manufacturing sectors to carry them through these austere times. By promoting growth, raising employment and increasing exports, it would seem many are correlating a booming manufacturing industry with economic prosperity.

However, this worldwide emphasis on sustainable economic renewal through manufacturing will only work if the industry is able to attract and retain the next-generation of talented engineers and innovators. At the moment though, it would appear that this crucial linchpin is proving a continual challenge.

With this in mind the UK's Department for Business Innovation and Skills launched the 'Make it in Great Britain' campaign, an initiative to raise awareness of manufacturing's importance for the country's economy, while transforming its cultural image in a bid to encourage young people to consider careers in the industry.

Launched last November it may be too early to say whether the goals set out by the Make it in Great Britain campaign have been achieved, but manufacturing figures (provided by the Markit/CIPS PMI) for the first quarter of 2012 look promising.
