A Day for Legal Aid: Canadian Bar Association Hosts Panel on Importance of Legal Aid

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 23, 2013) - The Canadian Bar Association B.C. Branch (CBABC) will host the annual A Day for Legal Aid event on October 2nd at the University of British Columbia (UBC Law), featuring a panel discussion on the importance of legal aid in British Columbia. This event marks the continuation of CBABC's We Need Legal Aid campaign, launched in October 2011, which seeks to raise awareness about the economic and social effects of cuts to funding for legal aid in B.C. The event will be live streamed to Law Students at both Thompson Rivers University and the University of Victoria and will be available to the public on the weneedlegalaid.com website. Viewers will be invited to send questions via Twitter to @WeNeedLegalAid or with the hashtag #WNLA.

Who: Panelists include Honourable Judge Robert Hamilton, family lawyer Kathryn Ferriss, criminal defense lawyer Chris Johnson, executive director of Legal Services Society Mark Benton, and executive director of West Coast LEAF Kasari Govender. The session will be moderated by CBABC President Dean Crawford.
