A Free Car and Pizza Too? Carleton Students Rejoice

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 28, 2013) - Carleton students need no longer suffer cabin fever this winter, now that Student Car Share (SCS) is rolling onto campus. Hauling groceries, or IKEA furniture, through the cold snow and bus transfers is a thing of the past for students, who can now take advantage of the first car sharing service in Canada geared towards the transportation needs of students 18+. For a $50 annual membership (plus a $25 admin fee), students can rent a car for a mere $8 per hour, which includes free gas and insurance.

SCS, which revved up in August, is already active on 16 college and university campuses in Ontario and one in Quebec, and officially launches at Carleton today. To celebrate, Student Car Share is giving away free memberships to the first 200 Carleton students who decide to join. This free membership giveaway is courtesy of Pizza Pizza. Anyone joining this holiday season will also be credited with $75 worth of free driving time.

"Owning a vehicle is not a reality for most students, so here is a scenario where they can have access to a car at any time to get groceries, go to the laundry mat, or go home for the weekend," said Michael Lende, Founder of Student Car Share. "And they can do this for a mere $8 per hour, which includes insurance and gas. Essentially, we're providing optimal convenience for a minimal cost."

Pizza Pizza, who also prides itself on affordability and convenience, is kicking in a voucher for a free medium pizza for each of the 200 new Carleton car share members. The medium pizza comes with 2 toppings and is valid at traditional Pizza Pizza locations only. (The voucher will be sent by mail in the Student Car Share New Member Welcome Package.)

"For over 45 years, Pizza Pizza has been a staple of Canadian student life, and we believe Student Car Share is poised to become a staple on Canadian campuses for generations to come," said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Pizza. "Both companies are dedicated to providing affordable, fun services to students, and we look forward to continuing to keep students rolling for years to come."

Student Car Share operates in exclusive partnership with Discount Car and Truck Rentals and Kia Canada. Through its relationship with Kia Canada, SCS also supports MADD by promoting social responsibility to its membership base.

The first 200 Carleton students to apply online November 28, will receive a free membership to Student Car Share (subject to meeting driving requirements). Starting at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday November 28th (for one day only), Carleton Students can go to the following link to apply for their free membership:

In addition to vehicles located at 1255 Bank St., Carleton students can also access Student Car Share's Kias on-campus, in the Administrative parking lot (P9) on level 2. For further information on our service and locations, or to become a member, visit
