A Ground Breaking TV Mini Series, "Mining Your Future" Premieres Sat, Sept 8th

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 5, 2012) - The first ever reality TV mini-series about careers in British Columbia's mining industry will premiere this Saturday September 8th at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm across BC. Mining Your Future's inaugural season showcases 24 diverse careers and offers an inside look at this modern day industry that provides jobs for over 10,000 employees in communities across British Columbia.

The TV series was filmed with the support of companies in mining operations and development, the British Columbia Government, the Mining Association of BC, Association for Mineral Exploration BC and the BC HR Task Force: Mineral Exploration, Mining, Stone, Sand, & Gravel (BC Mining HR Task Force). There are over 120 careers in the industry; the 24 selected to appear in this year's TV show are only the tip of the iceberg.

"The Mining Your Future TV mini-series provides a unique opportunity for British Columbians from the comfort of their own couch, to discover the industry that has some of the Provinces highest paying jobs (average combination of salary and benefits is over $110,000)," says Dave Bazowski, representing the BC Mining HR Task Force.

The show will air on TV every Saturday starting September 8th for 8 weeks at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm; check your local TV listings for the multiple networks and channels. Each episode will showcase three different careers, a 'Fact Digging' segment by BCIT that reveals a fun fact about the industry, and a 'Mining Gives Back' segment by Goldcorp that depicts the 'heart' of the industry in BC.

"The BC Mining HR Task Force fundamentally supported this pilot TV mini-series because BC is hitting a critical labor shortage with the aging demographic (40% of our industry is 50 years+), additionally our industry will need over 10,000 new recruits by 2021," explains Dave Bazowski. "It is important that British Columbians are provided the opportunity to explore the many career opportunities our industry provides throughout BC."
