A Tremendous Effort From a Small Amenity -- Hotel Partners With Global Soap Project

Fairfield Inn Chattanooga Contributes to Reprocessed Soap Program

CHATTANOOGA, TN--(Marketwire - Nov 11, 2011) - With over 4.6 million hotel rooms in the United States alone, an estimated 2.6 million bars of soap are discarded every day. The Global Soap Project recovers discarded soap from hotels, reprocesses it into new bars & distributes it to vulnerable populations throughout the world -- an initiative that the Fairfield Inn Chattanooga is proud to participate in.

Fairfield Inn Chattanooga has participated in this project since shortly after it began in 2009, with its entire housekeeping staff working together to save partially used bars of soap left behind by checked out guests. The Chattanooga Hamilton Place Hotel's staff then stores the soap until a substantial amount has been collected. The soap is then sent to Atlanta to be recycled and sent to countries in need.

Founded in 2009, the Global Soap Project is a non-profit organization with tax-exempt 501(c) 3 status (effective January 1, 2010) that recovers and recycles soap from US hotels that would otherwise end up in landfills. A former refugee, founder Derreck Kayongo saw firsthand the health issues that could be prevented with the presence of soap, and believed he could make a difference by making it accessible to everyone. After collection, the soap is sorted, reprocessed and remolded into new bars to be distributed to vulnerable populations around the world such as refugees, orphans and disaster victims.

A standout among family friendly hotels near Tennessee Aquarium, the Fairfield Inn Chattanooga offers free breakfast, complimentary high-speed Internet, well-lit work areas, a 24-hour business center and passes to a local gym, giving guests a superior value for both business and leisure. Among Shallowford Road Chattanooga hotels, these accommodations give guests the opportunity to enjoy all the city has to offer without the expense or frustration of staying downtown.
