Jean Leclerc, President of the Societe du 400e anniversaire de Quebec, awarded the 400th anniversary commemorative medallion to Hugues Michaud, Parks Canada Superintendent for the Quebec region, for his outstanding contribution to the 2008 celebrations.

"I am proud to share this award with the entire Parks Canada team in Quebec," said Mr. Michaud. "Thanks to our combined efforts, thousands of people have had the memorable experience of a visit to Espace 400e and to the Saint-Louis Forts and Chateaux, beneath the Dufferin Terrace."

With the creation of Espace 400e, Parks Canada made a significant contribution to the success of the festivities. Visitors from Quebec and abroad had the opportunity to experience this memorable site, while over 300,000 people discovered the rich history at Saint-Louis Forts and Chateaux since it was made accessible to the public. Among other things, the site brought to life the history of Champlain and his successors, at the head of the first permanent French settlement in Canada. Parks Canada was also involved in fruitful partnerships with the City of Quebec and the Societe du 400e throughout the festivities.

Only 100 copies were made of the 400th anniversary medallion. It is awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions to the 400th anniversary celebrations of Quebec and the development of the City. The medallion is the result of collaboration between the Societe du 400e anniversaire de Quebec, the Royal Canadian Mint, and the Monnaie Royale de Paris.
