AAA-Texas: Gas Prices Across Texas Under $2.00

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - November 13, 2008) - Gas stations across Texas are reporting prices well under $2 a gallon -- the lowest levels seen since January 2007, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price of regular unleaded gasoline fell by more nearly 13 cents statewide compared to last week, to $2.003 a gallon. The national average price fell by 16 cents to $2.178.

Houston, at $1.932, has the least expensive average price compared to other metropolitan areas in the state, while Dallas is reporting a price of $1.973 a gallon, a weekly decrease of more than 14 cents.

Five metropolitan areas in the state are now under $2.00 a gallon. The state's highest price is in El Paso at $2.366 -- a decline of 15 cents from last week.

"Thanksgiving travel may be a more affordable option for many families because of this dramatic decrease in prices over the last month," said AAA-Texas Houston spokesperson Dan Ronan. "Prices are now nearly a dollar lower than they were over the last Thanksgiving holiday, $1.50 lower than during the past Labor Day holiday, and nearly two dollars lower than over this summer's Fourth of July holiday."

Next week AAA will release its Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Forecast.
