AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch

HOUSTON, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 16, 2007 -- The rapid gas price increases motorists faced at the pumps for the last two weeks appear to have slowed in most areas of the state, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

Amarillo has the highest average on the survey at $2.513 a gallon -- a weekly increase of five cents. Corpus Christi has the cheapest average at $2.317 a gallon -- up a penny.

"Pump prices in Texas have risen for the sixth consecutive week," said AAA Texas spokeswoman Rose Rougeau. "Although current gas prices are relatively high for Texas motorists, prices in California are above $3 a gallon for regular self-serve. The increase comes on the back of strong demand for fuel, seasonal refinery conversions to the production of warm-weather blends and a relatively high oil price."

The national average is $2.549 a gallon -- a weekly increase of four cents.
