AAA to Fund Scholarships for EMTs and Paramedics in Nevada

AAA & NAEMT Foundation Partnership Will Support First Responders

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Sep 10, 2013) - AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Foundation have joined forces to provide educational programs that encourage and support careers in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) within the state of Nevada.

AAA donated $50,000 to the NAEMT Foundation at their annual meeting in Las Vegas, to create a unique pilot program that will support EMS education and training. The funding will provide information to young adults about EMS careers, as well as create a scholarship program for career opportunities in EMS. With current and future retirement trends on the rise within EMS, the objective is to increase the number of EMS practitioners in Nevada.

"AAA is proud to be partnering with the NAEMT Foundation, and hopes to inspire more EMS professionals in the state of Nevada," said Buck Lucas, V.P. Automotive Services of AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah. "AAA is deeply committed to supporting first responders, disaster response, preparedness education, and career opportunities in our local communities. This partnership will allow us to work together to strengthen and build the future of emergency medical services."

The NAEMT Foundation and parent organization, NAEMT, are currently affiliated with 28 EMS training sites in Nevada. For more information regarding the NAEMT Foundation or NAEMT's education programs, please visit

"We are grateful for the generous support of AAA. We look forward to their partnership in raising awareness of the importance of EMS in prehospital healthcare delivery, as well as the ongoing need for quality first responders," said NAEMT Foundation President, Craig Jacobus. "Nevada has a population of approximately 2.5 million residents, with limited healthcare resources in much of its rural areas. There is a great need to enhance the 6,425 licensed EMS practitioners -- as reported in 2012 by the Nevada State Office of Rural Health -- through statewide encouragement for a career in EMS."
