AAFC: Mr. Gill O. Shaw Appointed to Farm Credit Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 2, 2006) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board, today announced that the Governor in Council has approved his recommendation to appoint Mr. Gill O. Shaw to be Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Farm Credit Canada.

"Canada's farm families and rural communities are enriched by the business and financial services of Farm Credit Canada," said Minister Strahl. "I congratulate Mr. Shaw on his appointment and am confident that the knowledge and experience he brings to this position will benefit our agriculture industry here at home and in international markets."

Farm Credit Canada has been offering financial and business services to the agricultural community since 1959, and actively partners with other financial and agricultural institutions to finance a wide range of farm-related projects to help strengthen rural Canada.

The appointment is effective immediately.


Mr. Shaw has over 30 years of experience in agricultural and financial management, and is a specialist in large commercial credit administration. From 1991 to 2002, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Manitoba Agricultural Credit Corporation and, during that time, was a member of the Executive Committee of the Manitoba Department of Agriculture. From 1989-1991, he served as Executive Director of the Manitoba Farm Mediation Board. He lives in Brandon, Manitoba.
