AAFC/Statement: Secretary of State Paradis Supports Canadian Exporters at SIAL Montreal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - March 28, 2007) - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Secretary of State (Agriculture), today officially opened SIAL Montreal, the largest food fair in Canada, at the Montreal Convention Centre. On this occasion he made the following statement:

"Canada is honoured to host this world-class event. SIAL Montreal provides an unparalleled opportunity to show buyers around the world the wide range of healthy and high-quality foods offered by Quebec and Canadian businesses.

"This year, more than 750 exhibitors and 18,000 visitors from more than 80 countries will be present at this exhibition; this demonstrates that SIAL Montreal has the potential to be a gateway to agri-business in North America.

"I would like to salute the solid partnership that has developed over the years between Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Quebec Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in presenting this program of activities for our exporters. This fourth edition of SIAL is no exception. First of all, the Export Cafe enabled exporters to meet face to face with around fifty Canadian trade commissioners posted abroad. Canadian exporters also have the opportunity to meet with foreign buyers personally if they so wish. Also on the agenda are a presentation on the U.S. market for specialty food and seminars on the markets in Japan, the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Asia."

SIAL takes place at the Montreal Convention Centre through March 30. For more information, please visit
