ABSA Cargo Airline Celebrates First Female Wide-Body Aircraft Captain in Latin America

MIAMI--(CCNMatthews - Mar 29, 2006) -

ABSA Cargo Airline is proud to celebrate the completion of the first flight by Latin America's first female flight captain of a wide-body aircraft.

On January 23, 2006, Eveline Borges, 34, was the first woman in Latin America to fly an ABSA Cargo Airline Boeing 767-300F as a flight captain on an international flight.

She completed her first ABSA cargo flight as Master Chief Pilot on the route from Campinas, Brazil to Miami operating a Boeing 767-300F PR-ABB. The flight included stopovers in Maiquetia, Venezuela; and Bogota and Medelin, Colombia, where it faced foggy weather, but was greeted by a beautiful sunrise in Miami for the completion of the route. Second Chief Pilot Francisco Cancherini and co-pilots Eduardo Alcaraz and Alex Carvalho completed the crew.

Eveline Borges began her career as a pilot at the age of 17 and has since accumulated substantial experience specializing as a co-pilot of the Boeing 767 on international routes.

"Safety, leadership, team work and willingness to learn are essential cornerstones at ABSA Cargo Airline. Eveline is an outstanding exemplification of this philosophy and a valued contribution to our staff," said Director of Sales Felipe Meyer. "Without question, this is a proud achievement for the entire ABSA Cargo team."

ABSA Cargo Airline, a Brazilian flag cargo carrier, offers its customers an expansive route network in the United States, Latin America, Central America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. The company also offers handling services to other companies, including general sales agent (GSA) services, cargo operations (GHA), and documents handling, as well as aircraft maintenance.

ABSA has a fleet of two long-haul Boeing 767-300 freighters which are operated by a crew of 46 pilots, including Latin America's first female captain, Eveline Borges Fontenelle.

Over the past 10 years, ABSA Cargo has expanded its operations, and in 2005, ABSA reached a 21 percent market share of the total air cargo market of Brazilian airports, including imports and exports.
