ACAA and CANFAR Present "In The Know" 2013

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - April 22, 2013) - AIDS Calgary Awareness Association (ACAA), Alberta's leading HIV/AIDS organization, and the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) are excited to present In The Know - an evening intended to enlighten the community about the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS and those touched by the disease, including their families, friends and other supporters. In the Know will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Gerry Thomas Gallery in Calgary.

Ron Barry, Board member of ACAA, longtime CANFAR supporter, and founder of this event said, "The community has been phenomenal in supporting us and uniting around this cause." In the Know 2013 is inspired by this thought-provoking statement and unites 150 of Calgary's trendsetters and influencers for a remarkable fun-filled evening.

"The focus of In the Know 2013 is on our community. They are our friends, colleagues, and neighbours and many are not aware that HIV is preventable, manageable, and not a death sentence" states Ron Barry. "To produce this event, we're partnering with organizations like Belvedere Red, HedKandi, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and law firm Bennett Jones to host an elegant evening. The event will find unique and creative ways to inform people about HIV/AIDS in the guise of one of Calgary's hottest new parties which will include live music by local R&B singer Kadra."

In the Know 2013 will begin at 8:00 p.m. with cocktails and lots of inspiring conversation. More details of the evening will be announced closer to the event.

"We are very honoured to be part of In the Know 2013," states Susan Cress, Executive Director of ACAA. "Our community is very driven to ensure that they know about the reality of this disease and it is with events like this that we may create a significant change."

"CANFAR is very pleased to partner with the AIDS Calgary Awareness Association for In the Know 2013," says Christopher Bunting, CANFAR President and CEO. "With half of Grade 9 students wrongly believing that there is a cure for AIDS, it's more important than ever that we are educating Canadians. Events like In the Know allow us to take great steps in the right direction."

The event is by invitation only through event organizers, board members, and partner organizations. Rather than charging for tickets, guests need only RSVP, In the Know organizers have suggested a donation of $25.
