Acacia Communications Increases Volume for the AC-100 CFP Due to Exceptional Global Demand

Production Has Been Fully Transferred to a High Volume Contract Manufacturer; Acacia Expects to Ship More Than 12,000 Units in 2015

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 24, 2015) - OFC Conference -- Acacia Communications, the leader in delivering intelligent transceivers for ultra-high speed fiber optic transmission to the telecommunications infrastructure industry, today announced increased demand for the Company's AC-100 CFP. Acacia has transferred volume production of the CFP and the Silicon Photonics PIC to a Contract Manufacturer and will ship more than 12,000 units in 2015. The AC-100 CFP is the industry's first Coherent CFP designed for metro networks, reducing the size, power consumption and cost, and making 100G more cost effective than 10G in metro networks for carriers and content providers.

"As we move from Long Haul and Ultra Long Haul (LH/ULH) networks to Metro networks and Data Center Interconnect networks, the volume of 100G ports increases significantly and Acacia's low cost coherent CFP delivers compelling economics to this cost sensitive segment of the market," said Acacia Communications President and CEO Raj Shanmugaraj. "Delivering a low-cost, high performance Coherent CFP with advanced features like OTN framing, high performance Soft Decision FEC and offering the lowest power available in the market at 24 W in the ZR mode has expanded our customer base to more than 16 customers worldwide. We are taking market share from 10G solutions and 100G direct detect non-Coherent solutions, and growing the overall market for 100G Coherent products. This increased demand has caused us to raise our 2015 shipping targets to greater than 12,000 units."

"As we had forecasted, the Metro market is growing rapidly," said Daryl Inniss, practice leader of Ovum's components research. "With Acacia enabling low power Coherent 100G PM-QPSK in a CFP form factor, the economic feasibility for 100G has changed significantly. Metro upgrades and new deployments benefit from Coherent 100G PM-QPSK due to its superior tolerance on fiber impairments and ROADM filtering. Additional features like embedded OTU functionality provides flexibility and lowers the costs of 100G Coherent deployments."

"The pluggable Coherent 100G CFP with its embedded Coherent ASIC/DSP and common digital client interface is very easy to install and manage, permitting carriers and service providers to turn-up services very rapidly," said Acacia's Co-founder and Director of HW/SW, Mehrdad Givehchi. "Combined with the widespread adoption of the CFP form factor in many service platforms, carriers and service providers are able to quickly ramp their deployment of cost-effective 100G Metro solutions, fueling the large demand of Coherent CFPs. Our Coherent CFP also provides an ideal platform to push interoperability to the next level as the ASIC/DSP is included in the CFP. Acacia has successfully participated in multi-vendor interoperability trials at Tier 1 carriers worldwide for Coherent 100G applications."
