DAREarts Montreal announced today that the public is invited to the 2015 Montreal Youth Showcase at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), 1920 Rue Baile, Montreal, this Saturday, May 30, 2:30pm.

Oscar winner Frederic Bohbot, who was a guest mentor of DAREarts Montreal youth last year, continues to be a supporter. DAREarts Montreal was launched in 2014 as an innovative arts program to empower at-risk kids. DAREarts Founder Marilyn Field and Montreal Coordinator Sarah Manolson, collaborated with local artists, teachers and community members to establish a local program for an initial 30 young teens who were experiencing life challenges.

Bohbot described the inspiration he felt from the program saying, "I was touched, impressed and enlightened by the work of the DAREarts participants and staff." Wanting to return that inspiration is what led to his ongoing support.

In 2015, DAREarts Montreal is continuing to empower these youth, filling a critical need in their development as leaders. For the past 8 weeks, DAREarts Montreal has been collaborating with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), holding after-school workshops for eleven teen alumni. Each week, the youth gathered at the MMFA for an intensive afternoon of touring, art-making, discussion, reflection and skill-building. While the MMFA's extraordinary collection fueled the youths ideas and inspirations, the DAREarts principles of Discipline, Action, Responsibility, and Excellence reminded them that they are each capable of achieving and expressing their personal best. The showcase will consist of the artwork created during these sessions.

DAREarts Founder, Marilyn Field, says, "I am so proud of what these youth have accomplished through their creativity. They deserve every opportunity that we as a community can give them to become responsible and strong citizens."

About DAREarts

DAREarts is a Canadian not-for-profit organization which stands for "Discipline, Action and Responsibility and Excellence". DAREarts works with 9-14 year olds in underserved neighbourhoods, empowering them to become leaders. As the children explore world cultures in out-of-school experiences, they paint, sculpt, sing, dance, compose, design, write, act and create alongside arts professionals. This builds their confidence and courage to problem-solve in positive ways. DAREarts youths become leaders when they are charged with the responsibility of teaching their peers what they've learned. In 19 years, DAREarts has impacted more than 190,000 Canadian children. When DAREarts grads are asked why they are not involved in gangs and drugs, they reply, "We are too busy! Thank you to the education partners who opened their doors to the DAREarts Montreal youth: the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) and the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA).

DAREarts thanks its generous lead supporter Northbridge Insurance, without whom this much-needed program would not be possible.
