NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 16, 2007 -- Fueled By Ramen recording group The Academy Is... had an impressive first sales week with its acclaimed second album, "SANTI." The album -- which follows the Chicago-based band's 2005 breakthrough debut, "ALMOST HERE" -- has arrived at #32 on the Billboard 200, the band's highest chart entry to date. In addition, "SANTI" charts at #7 on the Top Current Rock Albums Chart and #8 on the Top Current Alternative Albums Chart. The Academy Is... celebrated its triumph with a major network TV appearance on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" performing live on the show's Pontiac Garage Outdoor Stage, just outside Hollywood's famed El Capitan Theatre. Coming up, the band is scheduled to perform on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on May 24th. In addition, Alternative Press magazine will be featuring the band as their cover story for the June issue, hitting stands in May.

"We've Got A Big Mess On Our Hands," the first single/video from "SANTI," is currently the #2 most-streamed video at The band will be filming a "Campus Invasion" segment for the network in Austin on April 22nd. In addition, the video won Fuse's "Oven Fresh" two weeks ago and has officially been added to the Fuse rotation. The clip has been featured on the network's popular "Steven's Untitled Rock Show" and will be airing an interview with the band in the coming weeks. MTV2 has also added "Big Mess" into rotation and is already a featured favorite on the channel's "T-Minus Rock." Last month, the group played a high-octane set on MTV's "Spring Break '07 Live," with its renditions of "We've Got A Big Mess On Our Hands" and "LAX To O'Hare" instantly going on to become two of the most-streamed clips on In addition, portions of the "Spring Break '07 Live" show have been featured on MTV's "TRL." The Academy Is... will also be headlining an installment of "MTV Live," performing at world-famous Hard Rock Café in New York City for an upcoming episode.

The Academy Is... will be kicking off this year's Honda Civic Tour in May. The major 42-date trek sees the band joining forces with their longtime friends, Fall Out Boy, as well as such other major acts as +44, Houston hip-hop hero Paul Wall, and labelmates Cobra Starship. The tour will kick off on May 11th at Denver's Coors Amphitheater, then traverse North America through a July 2nd finale at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California (see itinerary below).

"SANTI" has earned The Academy Is... a bounty of glowing critical praise and coverage in a variety of national publications, including the upcoming cover feature for Alternative Press magazine. The band was recently feted in Rolling Stone as one of the year's "10 Artists To Watch," where "SANTI" was hailed for combining "heart-on-sleeve melodrama with a hard-rock swagger." Newsday was effusive in its admiration, noting that "'SANTI' is the rare sophomore album that surpasses every hope its promising debut 'ALMOST HERE' offered and delivers new ones." USA Today agreed, calling the album "bigger in every way than its predecessor," hailing the band for "coming of age, tightening its chops, beefing up its rhythm-section stomp and showing off frontman William Beckett's range." Even Playboy was aroused by "SANTI," lauding the album as "confident, intense without being strident or histrionic, light on melodrama and heavy on melody... the LP you wish The Killers would make."

Produced by the one and only Butch Walker, "SANTI" marks a major leap forward for The Academy Is..., both in terms of sonic strength and overall artistic vision. The band displays a unique gift for stadium-sized melodies and unstoppable hooks, with songs such as the first single, "We've Got A Big Mess On Our Hands," given striking identity via Beckett's emotive, idiosyncratic vocals and honest, expansive lyricism. Raw yet rich, complex but immediate, "SANTI" instantly catapults The Academy Is... to the front ranks of modern American rock bands.

Formed in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates back in 2002, The Academy Is... captured attention right from the start with its inventive, electrifying take on expressive punk-inspired pop rock 'n' roll. Released in February 2005, the band's debut album, "ALMOST HERE," earned unanimous critical acclaim, with Alternative Press declaring it a "bona-fide punk-pop masterpiece."

The Academy Is... toured nearly non-stop behind the album's release, sharing stages coast-to-coast with such like-minded outfits as Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack, and All American Rejects. In 2006, the band embarked on its own rapturously received headline trek, topping a bill that also featured Hellogoodbye and Fueled By Ramen's own Panic! At The Disco. With a fervent fanbase growing daily, The Academy Is... spent their summer winning over mainstage crowds on the annual Vans Warped Tour, while behind the scenes, focusing on penning new material for what would eventually become the sophomore "SANTI."

In October, The Academy Is... was honored with a trio of mtvU Woodie Awards nominations, including the prestigious "Woodie of the Year" and two "Streaming Woodie" nods -- presented to the year's Most Downloaded Videos -- for the "Checkmarks" and "Slow Down" clips.
