Accelrys Selects BlueArc Titan Storage System as Company's Standard Storage Platform Worldwide

Titan Purchases Enable World's Leading Computational Science Company to Further Worldwide Consolidation Efforts, Simplifying Corporate Infrastructure

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 22, 2005 -- BlueArc® Corporation, provider of the world's highest performance, most scalable network storage systems, today announced that Accelrys (NASDAQ: ACCL), the leading computational science company, has selected BlueArc Titan SiliconServers as the company's standard storage platform. Accelrys has purchased three Titan SiliconServers with more than forty terabytes of storage to support its operations in San Diego, USA, Cambridge, UK and Bangalore, India, consolidating multiple storage environments behind a single, highly scalable, architecture in each location.

Accelrys develops and delivers scientific software applications and services to the life sciences and materials research industries, helping its customers solve critical R&D problems. Accelrys' life science researchers and software developers are utilizing BlueArc's Titan systems to support gene sequence processing, engineering build data, and the associated Oracle databases. In addition, Accelrys client PCs are backed up directly to Titan, which is capable of handling dozens of streams concurrently.

When selecting its storage infrastructure, Accelrys was looking for a solution that would not only support its application needs, but would also provide a lifespan greater than the two years common to storage hardware offerings. This made Titan's ability to provide feature, functionality and performance upgrades at the blade level without the need for system replacement, critical to the company's decision. Accelrys also selected Titan for its reliability and because it is easy to deploy, with a nominal amount of administrative training required.

"Blade upgrades were a significant attraction to us, as we have a goal of utilizing Titan for 4-5 years, if not longer," said Carol Busch, IT manager at Accelrys. "We were interested in the technology itself -- scalability in hardware, with simplified upgrades. We are confident that this decision will take us into the long-term and give us room to invest in other areas of our IT without having to worry about another storage overhaul."

Accelrys is employing Titan as a key element of the storage infrastructure in its San Diego headquarters and international offices to eliminate the capacity and performance limitations that were inherent in its current Network Attached Storage (NAS) environment.

"Enterprise customers like Accelrys are finding that Titan's long lifespan offers them dramatic long-term cost savings and business benefits unattainable through any other systems on the market today," said Mike Gustafson, president of BlueArc. "We look forward to the continued growth of our enterprise customer base in 2005."
