ACG Announces Chapter Awards

ACG Philadelphia, ACG Portland and ACG Wisconsin Named Chapters of the Year

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - May 5, 2009) - The Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), the global community for corporate growth, corporate development, and mergers and acquisitions professionals, today named ACG Philadelphia, ACG Portland and ACG Wisconsin as ACG Chapters of the Year. ACG will present the chapter awards at the ACG InterGrowth® conference, May 12-14, in Las Vegas, NV, the world's leading conference for middle market M&A professionals and corporate dealmakers.

To recognize the diversity of chapters, three award winners were chosen, representing various market sizes.

"These three award-winning chapters have set an outstanding example of how innovative programming, marketing and service provides value to ACG members," said Harris Smith, ACG Chairman, and Managing Partner, Private Equity, Grant Thornton, LLC. "ACG's Philadelphia, Portland and Wisconsin chapters have raised the bar of excellence and exemplify how ACG can help members increase dealflow and business opportunities."

"We are honored to have been selected for this award. Our Chapter's success is due to the dedication and hard work of our Board, our committed and indefatigable staff and our many volunteers," said Richard Jaffe, ACG Philadelphia President and Partner, Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP. "We believe that the award reflects the success of ACG Philadelphia's "deal community" strategy. Three years ago, the leadership of ACG Philadelphia concluded that our members consisted principally of the deal community in the region. Since that time, we have focused all our efforts -- from programming (DealSource,) to membership, (structured networking events and peer to peer dinners for corporate development professionals,) to marketing -- to bring value to the different constituents in the deal community. ACG Philadelphia has remained focused. This focus has enhanced our brand and program offering, and attracted new members."

"On behalf of my fellow board members, committee members and general membership of the Portland Chapter of ACG, I am delighted to accept this prestigious award," said Spencer J. Brown, ACG Portland President and President, Spencer J. Brown and Associates. "Our chapter is unique in the ACG universe as our local membership consists primarily of mid-market CXOs who reflect our chapter's desire to attract and retain active members as diverse as Oregon business itself. Although our primary local focus is on corporate growth and development, the ACG Chapter Network allows our members the best of both worlds: growth and mergers & acquisitions opportunities."

"I am so very pleased our ACG-Wisconsin board, committee chairs and our many committee members are receiving this incredible recognition," said Linda Mertz, ACG Wisconsin President and President of Mertz Associates, Inc. "This award is a wonderful motivation as we enter our summer-time strategic planning session. We have a lot of passion and ability throughout our chapter. Thinking about how we involve more quality people and add more value for our members is exciting."
