Aconex Customers Win Constructech Vision Awards

Graham Group and Vista Projects Recognized for Innovative Use of Technology

SAN BRUNO, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 9, 2012) - Aconex, provider of the world's most widely used online project collaboration solutions for the construction, infrastructure, power, mining, and oil and gas industries, today announced that two of its customers have received the 2012 Constructech Vision Award for the successful application of innovative technology to their everyday businesses. The winners -- Graham Group and Vista Projects Limited -- received their awards at the Constructech Technology Day Vision Awards dinner on October 5 in San Mateo, California. Aconex was also honored for providing the cloud collaboration technology that enabled its customers' achievements.

Graham Group - Gold Award, Builder/GC Commercial: More than $500 Million
Graham Group, based in Calgary, Alberta, received the Gold Award for the builder or general contractor of a commercial project valued at more than $500 million. The project for which Graham was recognized was the expansion of Kelowna General Hospital and Vernon Jubilee Hospital, one of British Columbia's largest public-private partnerships (PPP) to date. Through the use of the Aconex online collaboration platform, Graham was able to achieve the following benefits:

  • Acceleration of the tendering process by six days per bid package
  • Increased efficiency of project-start-up, with a reduction of several weeks
  • Improved workflows and accountability for review and approval, with a reduction of eight hours to ten minutes per review, or a total of 32,900 hours of administrative time
  • Printing cost savings totaling 80%

"We are pleased with this prestigious recognition from Constructech," said Dave Corcoran, P. Eng., vice president, major commercial projects, at Graham Construction, a member of the Graham Group of Companies. "Our project involved 700 team members across 90 companies, 585,000 documents, and 4,500 drawings -- as well as strict data regulations and compliance requirements, very tight deadlines, and financial penalties for schedule delays and non-compliance. Aconex technology helped us meet these challenges and deliver a superior outcome to our clients, while increasing our efficiency, productivity and cost savings for other projects."

Vista Projects - Gold Award, AEC/Design
Also based in Calgary, Vista Projects conducted an internal audit to identify all areas in which improvements in process and information management could enhance its project delivery and value to clients. As a result of this audit, the company selected the Aconex platform for document control and access, workflow automation and correspondence management to reduce project complexity and risk. In addition, the implementation of a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform eliminated the cost, deployment and maintenance of on-site hardware and software systems.

Vista Projects received the Gold Award, AEC/Design, for achieving several goals, including:

  • Acceleration of project start-up by considerably reducing preparation time for each project team member
  • Significant time savings for document control and data management
  • Improved engineering review and quality assurance through total collaboration
  • Increased speed and efficiency for compliance and handover documentation processes

"As a trusted partner to both our clients and our employees, we are committed to continuous self-improvement throughout the organization," said Amit Varma, principal and head of corporate development at Vista Projects. "The adoption of Aconex technology has clearly helped us advance our leadership in engineering and construction for heavy oil production in western Canada. We are honored to receive this award from Constructech and the industry-wide recognition that it represents."
