Aconex Helps MGPA Manage Singapore's Asia Square Project

Hundreds of Organizations Share Millions of Documents and Communications; Printing Costs Reduced by 70%

SINGAPORE--(Marketwire - Mar 26, 2013) - Aconex, provider of the world's most widely used online project collaboration solutions for the construction, infrastructure, power, mining, and oil and gas industries, is helping MGPA manage project information and workflow processes for Asia Square, a twin-tower mixed-use development in Singapore's New Downtown on Marina Bay.

Asia Square will include 190,000 square meters of prime office space, a 305-room five-star hotel, 5,600 square meters of retail space, and 9,300 square meters of open public space. The first of the twin towers opened in 2011, and the second is expected to open in 2013. Known as 'The Human Building' for its ergonomic and environmentally friendly design, Asia Square achieved the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) Core and Shell Platinum certification.

MGPA, a global real estate investment advisory firm, implemented the Aconex online collaboration platform for the Asia Square project in 2007. Since then, the project team of nearly 900 individuals from more than 400 organizations across multiple regions has used the platform to manage over 4 million documents and 9 million items of correspondence. According to Hardesh Singh, commercial manager at MGPA, using Aconex has accounted for a 70% reduction in printing costs.

"For a project of this size, Asia Square is one of the smoothest I have seen -- largely due to the smooth flow of communication," said Singh. "That eliminates 80% of the headaches and significantly reduces project risk. Also, with an audit trail, it is now much easier to resolve disputes and ensure accountability. What would have previously taken days now takes a couple of hours at most."

Singh cited real-time tracking of project information and deliverables and the speed of transmitting drawings and other large files as additional success factors in the use of Aconex. He indicated that using manual methods to manage a global team of contractors, consultants and suppliers for a project on the scale of Asia Square would be impossible -- and his goal is paperless communications.

Andy Lake, general manager of Asia at Aconex, commented: "Asia Square is a very prestigious project, and we are pleased to have supported it for six years now. With the success of Marina Bay Sands and other high-profile developments, Singapore has proven to be a vibrant market for online collaboration solutions, and we look forward to expanding our footprint in the region."
