ACORN members and allies - such as Social Planning Toronto - have been fighting to pressure the province to change provincial legislation enabling municipalities to implement Inclusionary Housing since 2009. ACORN members will keep the pressure on to make sure the legislation gets tabled and passed ASAP!

Granting Inclusionary Zoning powers to municipalities would enable them to mandate that new developments have affordable types of housing in them. If the Liberal Government had given Toronto the ability to use Inclusionary Zoning even 5 years ago - we would have 12,000 more units of affordable housing on the way today according to the City's Chief Planner Jennifer Keesmaat.
