Acquia Announces Acquia Cloud Shield, Offering an Isolated Cloud for Network Security

Supports Delivery of Internal Applications on Virtual Private Networks

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwired - Dec 5, 2014) -  Acquia, the digital experience company, today launched Acquia Cloud Shield, an isolated cloud for sites housed within a corporate network. Shield offers all the advantages of the agile, resilient Acquia Platform with the added security of complete network isolation, helping organizations confidently build internal applications faster and securely connect to private data.

"Acquia Cloud Shield combines the security benefit of a private isolated network with the ease of operation of a managed Platform as a Service. Never before have IT organizations been able to this easily bridge their corporate network with the cloud, and launch applications that connect securely to internal services," said Christopher Stone, senior vice president of products and development at Acquia. "Shield offers a solution to provide security and network-level isolation for those cases where customers use Drupal to create internal applications that make use of private, corporate data."

Shield offers the most advanced and automated networking and security for Drupal sites. It enables customers to create a virtual private network connection between a corporate data center and Acquia Cloud, allowing users to connect corporate networks to Drupal-based sites through a simple, trusted direct connection. Such secure connections allow Drupal sites to communicate with databases and services such as access protocols hosted on corporate networks, and provide added security for internal applications. In addition, Acquia Cloud Shield gives companies increased control over their virtual networking environment, including selection of their own internal IP address range.

Among the first adopters of Shield are:

  • A travel site is isolating the repository that houses its content assets, which help the site deliver discounted, personalized travel offers to customers.
  • Employees at a U.S.-based mutual insurance company will access its corporate datacenter through a portal secured by Acquia Cloud Shield, which enables user authentication from outside the corporate firewall.
  • An NGO serving millions of college students annually is moving its payment, transaction functions, and student databases to the cloud.
  • A federal agency will deliver content securely to authenticated users within its private network.

Acquia Cloud Shield is a part of the Acquia Platform, which brings together Acquia's solutions for digital engagement and experience management to unify content, community and commerce. The Acquia Platform supports DevOps best practices by helping engineers create high-quality applications faster. The Acquia Platform's elastic cloud infrastructure and enterprise-class, follow-the-sun support automate quality assurance so the user experience is never disrupted, helping ensure great performance.
