Acquia Named Company of the Year by the Belgian-American Chamber of Commerce

International Honor Recognizes Company's Growth and Success

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwired - Oct 9, 2014) -  Acquia, the digital business company, today announced it received the Company of the Year award from the Belgian-American Chamber of Commerce (BelCham), a non-profit that supports and facilitates business and entrepreneurship between Belgium and the United States. Each year BelCham presents this award to recognize the rapid growth and success of a company with Belgian ties. Past winners include Arseus, Brussels Airlines, and Le Pain Quotidien. Acquia was named Most Promising Company by BelCham in 2012.

Acquia's co-founder and chief technology officer, Dries Buytaert, is a native of Belgium. He created the Drupal web content management system as a computer science student at the University of Antwerp. Drupal is open source software that powers millions of websites today, and it is supported by a community of more than 35,000 developers. In 2007, Buytaert founded Acquia to help organizations succeed with Drupal. More than 4,000 organizations, including Global 2000 enterprises, government agencies and NGOs, rely on Acquia's open cloud platform to deliver digital experiences that unify content, community and commerce. Acquia is based in Burlington, Mass.

"Since Acquia's founding, we've helped organizations around the globe grow, reach new audiences, and deliver better service more efficiently," Buytaert said. "BelCham supports entrepreneurship by helping companies like Acquia navigate the complexities of international business. Its annual award program spotlights those companies with Belgian roots that are making invaluable contributions to economic development and innovation. We're proud to be recognized as one of them."

"Dries' leadership has propelled Acquia to great success in the hyper-competitive world of software and IT," said Bieke Claes, managing director of BelCham. "Acquia's story provides a model for Belgian entrepreneurs who aspire to grow their business globally."

The convergence of content, community and commerce has fueled Acquia's rapid growth, as the company helps organizations deliver services at a far lower cost and achieve a faster time to market. A focus for Acquia going forward is the delivery of more contextually relevant experiences, driven by better website personalization and the integration of commerce.

Acquia continues to experience significant momentum. Last month, Buytaert was named CTO of the Year at the 2014 MassTLC Leadership Awards, hosted by the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council. Acquia also recently achieved its 21st consecutive quarter of revenue growth. This November, Acquia will host its first annual customer conference, Acquia Engage, where executives from leading organizations will share their strategies for winning in today's digital economy. Acquia Engage will take place November 3-5, 2014 in Boston.
