Actiance to Showcase First Context-Aware, Cloud Archive at LegalTech 2014

Alcatraz Reinvents Enterprise Information Archiving

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Feb 4, 2014) - (LegalTech 2014, Booth #2012) -- Actiance announced today at LegalTech 2014 that it is showcasing Alcatraz, a new cloud-based archive for email and other real-time communication channels that reduces the cost of eDiscovery by uniquely displaying dynamic social content in context. With the addition of Alcatraz, Actiance now extends its social business governance platform from policy control and real-time content monitoring to archiving, legal holds, and records retention and disposal. Actiance reduces the risks and costs of today's real-time communications channels so organizations can unleash social business and the benefits of using unified communications, collaboration tools, and social media.

Today's organizations are experiencing an influx of content created through real-time communications channels, including enterprise social software, external social media, and collaboration platforms. At the same time, the legal community is subject to a growing body of case law in which social communications were deemed admissible evidence and played key roles in the outcome. However, most organizations lack the tools to respond to these trends effectively, leaving them exposed to a higher risk of data loss, sanctions, and increased eDiscovery costs.

With the launch of Alcatraz, Actiance has reinvented enterprise information archiving by introducing the first context-aware, cloud archive for all communications. It addresses the archiving market's gaps with a groundbreaking approach to the management of social content, thereby decreasing the time needed for legal review and ultimately the cost of eDiscovery. For example, where organizations may have previously only journaled email, they can now use Alcatraz to easily journal all their communications.

Alcatraz's approach to journaling also preserves context in an easy-to-view format. This stands in stark contrast to traditional archives, which are not designed to accommodate the nuances of social business content, where users can change or even delete posted content very easily. Traditional archives treat each interaction as an individual event as it is created. For instance, a single Facebook post with 30 comments is archived as 31 separate emails. Alcatraz takes a completely different approach, starting from the construct of social content -- retaining and retrieving content, even edits and deletes, as fully threaded, contextual conversations -- and presenting this alongside email. The archive also provides the ability to replicate what a blog, discussion board, or post looked like at a particular point in time. These features ultimately make it easier, faster, and more cost-effective for auditors, attorneys, and litigation support staff to find and review content with greater accuracy and confidence.

In short, Alcatraz uniquely provides organizations with an archive designed for all their communications. Additional highlights include:

  • A single repository for email, social media, and other real-time communications
  • A social journal that preserves context in an easy-to-view format, including edits and deletions made by users
  • Ease of search and review via identity reconciliation across data sources
  • The import of policy violations and other data from Vantage, Socialite, and SecurExchange
  • Deployment flexibility in the cloud (multi-tenant or dedicated)

"Social information is rapidly becoming one of enterprises' greatest challenges today as it is often excluded from traditional information archive processes," said Laura Dubois, Program Vice President, Storage, IDC. "Managing, archiving and discovering the growing volumes of social business information should be a high priority for any organization looking to achieve an effective information governance strategy. Solutions, such as Actiance's Alcatraz are emerging to solve this challenge. Designed to embrace this new information paradigm, it enables organizations to have a true context-aware archive that embraces all corporate communication platforms, including social media, collaboration, social software and instant messaging in addition to email."

"As communications have evolved so have the requirements of regulators, our customers, and their legal departments. With Alcatraz, we have risen to the challenge of putting the unique, dynamic nature of social content first and not defaulted to the flat format of a traditional archive," said Kailash Ambwani, President and CEO of Actiance. "The groundbreaking approach we've taken realizes our vision of delivering on governance of the entire information life cycle of social business -- without compromise."

Alcatraz is available to Socialite and Vantage customers as a beta today, with general availability in Q2 2014.
