Acton Schools Start Year With Three Nexamp Solar Arrays

ACTON, MA--(Marketwire - Sep 20, 2011) - School officials at Acton-Boxborough Regional School District and Acton Public Schools have launched a new school year with three solar photovoltaic arrays -- totaling almost 300 kilowatts of solar capacity -- operating atop school buildings. Together, the arrays will produce about 300,000 kilowatt-hours annually -- enough to power 35 average Massachusetts homes and offset over 500,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per year. Over 20 years, the schools expect to save well over $400,000.

The projects were designed and built by Nexamp (www.nexamp.com), headquartered in North Andover, MA. Nexamp owns the solar systems and sells the electricity produced to the schools at a discounted rate as part of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). For the schools, the price of the solar electricity provided by the arrays is well below the retail price of electricity purchased from the local utility and is fixed for the life of the PPA. All three solar arrays benefited from rebates through Massachusetts' widely successful Commonwealth Solar program and required no upfront investment from the Acton schools.

Nexamp installed two solar installations of approximately 100 kilowatts each at the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School and R.J. Grey Junior High School a year ago. The most recent addition was an 82-kilowatt array, completed at Douglas Elementary School last November.
