ACWA to Release Groundwater Sustainability Recommendations on April 7

Bold Suite of Legislative, Administrative Changes Identified to Address Overdraft, Improve Management

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 4, 2014) - The statewide Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) on April 7 will release a suite of far-reaching recommendations for improving management of groundwater basins throughout California.

A press call is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to brief reporters on the recommendations. See details below.

ACWA's recommendations come as discussions continue in the regulatory and legislative arenas to identify ways to address potentially unsustainable declines in groundwater levels and degraded groundwater quality in some basins of the state. The drought has brought the problem into even sharper focus.

The association created a task force in November 2013 to formulate specific recommendations to improve groundwater sustainability around the state. The recommendations identify legislative and administrative actions to address challenges, improve groundwater management and accountability where it is deficient, provide new tools and authorities to accelerate progress by local and regional agencies, and guide enhanced state support where needed.
