Adaptec Launches Industry's Highest Performing Departmental Network Storage Product Family -- the New Snap Server 500 Series

First Volume NAS Platform Built on 64-bit AMD Opteron™ Processor Architecture Redefines Mid-Range Storage Price/Performance

MILPITAS, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 21, 2006 --Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today introduced the Snap Server 500 Series, an innovation in network storage that packs several industry-first technological advancements into the fastest, most economical 1U storage solution available for workgroups, remote offices, departments, small businesses, and medium-sized enterprises worldwide. With scalable configurations that expand from 640GB to 43.2TB of Serial ATA (SATA) or 26.4TB of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) capacity, built-in redundancy with dual, hot-swappable power supplies, and a host of storage management and data protection software included, the Snap Server 510, 520 and 550 are powerful and cost-effective solutions for primary, secondary and nearline storage.

The Snap Server 510 (640GB SATA), 520 (1TB or 2TB SATA) and 550 (1.2TB SAS) are the first departmental network attached storage (NAS) solutions to be powered by the 64-bit AMD Opteron™ processor. They are also the first to incorporate SAS and SATA drive flexibility, allowing businesses to deploy solutions that deliver the perfect mix of enterprise-class performance and value-based capacity to support application requirements. The Adaptec SANbloc S50 SAS JBOD serves as the universal SAS/SATA expansion array for the Snap Server 520 and 550, scaling up to a total of 43.2TB of SATA or 26.4TB of SAS capacity.

"Snap Servers have always been a reputable, safe choice for customers, and the new Snap Server 500 series coupled with Snap's portfolio of data protection and management software, expands the choice customers have when deploying Network Attached Storage systems," said Brian Babineau, industry analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "With the Snap Server 500 family, customers now have several new options for primary and secondary storage at reasonable price points. These new Snap Servers enable customers to take advantage of solutions that utilize SAS or SATA technology to create a tiered storage environment that is driven by the value of the information and its accessibility and availability requirements. These servers are truly giving companies the total package of performance, data management and protection for all types of business data."

Powered by the award-winning GuardianOS software platform, the Snap Server 510, 520 and 550 combine cross-platform file sharing along with block-level data access (via iSCSI) on a single network storage device. The Snap Server Manager software allows easy deployment, configuration and management of multiple distributed Snap Servers from a single console. Data protection is provided through CA eTrust antivirus and BakBone's NetVault backup software, which includes a 500GB virtual tape library (VTL) license, all bundled at no additional charge. VTL support enables customers to deploy disk-to-disk (D2D) or disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) backup strategies that combine the benefits of disk-based backup with the long term cost-effectiveness of archival tape. In addition, GuardianOS includes snapshot technology that enables users to take instant, disk-based point-in-time images of data to ensure rapid recovery in the event of file loss, data corruption or user error.

"Snap Servers have repeatedly set the standards in the industry for ease-of-use, high performance, and affordability for low- to mid-range network storage solutions," said Mark Pollard, vice president of marketing for the Storage Systems and Solutions Group at Adaptec. "Snap Server remains one of the top commercial NAS brands today with well over 170,000 installations worldwide and more than 60 product awards from independent sources. The new Snap Server 500 series continues to build on this powerful tradition with our fastest, most efficient and scalable platform to date."

Additional Features and Benefits of the Snap Server 500 Series

-- Superior Performance -- All three models utilize 64-bit AMD Opteron
processors and the GuardianOS operating system for high-speed performance
that is up to twice as fast as that of the industry-leading Snap Server
4500 and competing products in a similar price point. With speeds up to
700 Mb/s and priced as low as $2/GB (fully configured), the Snap Server 500
series delivers leading value and performance over competing departmental
NAS servers on the market, making it ideal for supporting the most
    demanding workloads and applications.

-- Flexible, Scalable Storage Architecture -- The Snap 500 Series
supports hot-swappable SAS/SATA drives for the perfect mix of price and
performance. Powerful software features, including instant capacity
expansion (I.C.E.), enable businesses to effortlessly scale storage
capacity on demand, providing a storage solution that grows with the
    business.

-- Enhanced Availability -- The first of its kind in a 1U NAS platform,
the Snap Server 500 series is designed for two independent hot swappable
power supplies. Depending on the Snap Server 500 model chosen, dual power
supplies either come standard or can be purchased as an option. The 500
series also offers dual redundant Gigabit Ethernet ports for enhanced
    network availability.

-- Advanced Data Protection and Data Management -- In addition to the
data protection software that comes standard on every Snap Server, optional
software solutions are available to help move, manage and protect corporate
data. New this month is StorAssure Personal Edition (see press release
dated 2/21/06), an easy-to-use Continuous Data Protection (CDP) solution
for automatically backing up valuable information on distributed or mobile
desktops and laptops to a networked Snap Server. Companies can also utilize
Snap Enterprise Data Replicator (Snap EDR), a high-performance, network-
optimized data replication and management software for advanced data
    protection and disaster recovery capabilities.
