Adorama Releases Practical TV Buying Guide

A Guide Recently Published in Adorama Learning Center (ALC) Gives Consumers Practical Tips on Choosing the Perfect TVs for Their Homes

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Feb 17, 2016) - Adorama, one of the world's largest photography, video and audio, imaging and electronics retailers, recently published a comprehensive guide in Adorama Learning Center (ALC) on choosing the perfect TVs for their homes.

Adorama audio expert and ALC contributor Jay Goodman outlines the differences between HD (high definition), 4K, UHD (ultra high definition), and OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technologies for TVs. He also discusses how to choose the right screen size for the room, the types of connections and ports needed to connect the TV to the A/V gear, as well as product recommendations.

Screen Size

"Choosing the right-sized screen might be the most important decision in shopping for a new TV. The size you choose depends on what room it will go in, how far you sit from the screen, and your personal preference," notes Jay. He goes on to note how TV screens are measured and the recommended screen sizes for different rooms. He also gave tips on calculating the optimal screen size for maximum viewing comfort.

HD, UHD, 4K, and OLED

Jay goes over the technical specs that distinguish HDTVs from UHD and 4K technologies. He also explains what OLED TVs are and the difference they make in terms of TV experience.

"When presented with 4K content, UHD and 4K TVs can display much greater detail than HDTV. UHD TVs cost a few hundred dollars more than their HD counterparts, although the price gap is slowly narrowing," Jay writes.

For those who are interested in buying new HDTVs (1080p), Jay's recommendations include the Samsung J5000 50" HDTV that provides twice the clarity of standard HDTVs with HD 1080. Other features include an enriched color display and two HDMI ports for higher-quality audio and video.

As for UHD/4Ks, Jay recommends the Samsung UN48JS8500 48", a 4K SUHD 3D Smart LED TV with a curved screen. Key features include 64X greater color expression with Nano-crystal technology, as well as dynamic brightness and contrast. Users can access and play their favorite content with Smart TV.

When it comes to OLED TVs, one of Jay's recommendations is the LG Electronics EG9011 55" -- a 1080p Smart curved OLED 3D TV with three HDMI ports. Additional key features include Perfect Black, infinite contrast, and the clearest expression of color. True black creates a lifelike range between white and black; as a result, OLED TVs display images that are much truer to life than other screens.
